Emu in the Sky

This artwork is a celebration of the Dreaming – Emu in the Sky. 

At the top of my artwork the Emu is depicted stretching across the sky in the Milky Way. The emu’s form appears within the dark patches between the stars and is in a running stance. This tells us it is time to hunt for eggs.  However, when the Emu appears in a sitting or lying down stance, it is no longer time to collect. This is the season for the father emu to sit on the eggs keeping them warm. The story teaches us to only take what we need and allow the rest of the eggs to hatch and life to continue. It promotes how to live in balance.
My artwork represents this dreaming story where the emu hovers around its nest with the backdrop of the stary night sky in the milky way. The meeting places represents mob watches closely at the “EMU in the sky” for the right time to collect the eggs.
