This artwork symbolizes the kangaroo, its strength, agility, and its importance to Aboriginal people. Kangaroo hunting is a reminder of the respect we give to our ancestors, who have passed down their knowledge and unique hunting skills to generations. Not only was the kangaroo killed for food, but it contributed to clothing (skins) and certain tendons were used when making hunting tools due to their strength.
My artwork shows the men hunting and the kangaroos (footprints) fleeing their traps. The women foraging for nuts and berries and their meeting place where they await the men returning to feast. The background depicts the lush flora on country. The rich hues represent our landscape and the vivid imagery of storytelling about the kangaroo hunt.
