Living Among Red Giants

Living Among Red Giants tells a story of a time before colonial settlement, along the river in the Clarence Valley, where Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung communities lived for thousands of years in the deep shaded canopy of an ancient red cedar forest. These trees were dubbed “red gold” and became the main trade of the area and economic foundation of Grafton City and within a generation , logged the red cedar to extinction ... this painting captures the warmth of a community living in harmony with nature on the floor of the forest, as well as a ripple of heartache for what was and a history untold
