This piece reflects my childhood experiences living on Midgee Station near outback Rockhampton, where we would play with kangaroos, treating them as our pets. The area was very isolated, with no shops, just 4 to 5 houses.

Artists Bio
Her passion and influence comes from both her auntie’s stories and her faith:
“My Aunties communicated our history and family connections through art and stories that have been handed down to me through the generations. I have vivid memories of gathering with my community on sacred land, dancing, sleeping, creating arts and crafts, sitting around a campfire and listening to my Elders."
Verqelle has now moved to Birpai Country with her children more than 10 years ago and this new life has had a major influence on her art.
