The gulung (carrier vessel) is an essential part of Gumbaynggirr day-to-day life and sacred activities. The gulung can serve as a vessel for water, food, babies, fire and other domestic and sacred objects. My native grass and ochre gulung is a reinterpretation of the original vessels crafted by my ancestors. This particular gulung is a prayer to my matrilineal lineages. It symbolises the powerful collective womb energy of my feminine ancestors who have joyfully walked Gumbaynggirr Country making magic, restoring eco-systems, tending family, resisting assimilation and generally being badass, wild earth witches.
Materials
Native grass (unidentified), terracotta, wild-foraged ochre and waxed linen thread
