This artwork represents the Castlereagh River, which flows through my home country of Gomeroi, as well as Weilwan and Kamilaroi Country. Originating in the Warrumbungle mountain ranges and bushland in Coonabarabran, the river stretches north-west for 549 kilometers. Each meeting place along its path signifies the townships it traverses.
I hold many fond memories of gathering along the river's sandbanks, where my family engaged in fishing, yabbying, barbecues, relaxation, and swimming. The Castlereagh River holds a special place in my heart, and many of my people say, "the Castlereagh runs through my veins."
