Whispers of the Wetlands
Whispers of the Wetlands
This artwork represents the vibrant life and cultural importance of the wetlands on
Awabakal land. It shows the rich diversity of creatures that call the wetlands home including the turtle, frog and the dragonfly which symbolise a healthy eco system.
In the centre of the artwork is a large meeting place representing a gathering where teaching, learning and stories take place.
The flowing waterlines throughout the artwork show how the waterways connect everything on country and included in this gathering is the rainbow serpent who created them. The dot-work and patterns depict movement throughout the painting and portray the different and ever-changing landscapes of country. The bottle brush, wattle and the bullrush reeds represent some of the flora found in this stunning and natural environment.
The wedgetail eagle (Awabakal totem) soars high above in the sunlight reminding us of its wisdom, strength and spiritual presence of our ancestors watching over us.
