Jibaanga means waterhole in Gumbaynggirr, waterholes are sacred spiritual areas especially for women, they have been used for labour and birthing for thousands of years, women would bathe and sing the soon to be mothers to assist them in a calm natural birth.
Miimi & Jiinda hail from the Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, and Bundjalung tribes of Australia’s East Coast, often referred to as “Saltwater Country.” For both mother and daughter, their art has been a powerful medium for healing intergenerational trauma.
