’Girambit’ meaning ‘Saltwater’ in Gathang, the language of the Birrbay, Guringay and Warrimay people, is a healing piece that celebrates and captures the magical and intrinsic nature of saltwater.
It highlights the tidal flow of our cooling coastal ocean waters, ever changing and fluid in movement. It’s in this ‘blue space’ that we find ourselves escaping and experiencing a restorative effect, a shifting mindfulness and a calming sensation.
“As an Aboriginal woman, I have always had a deep and profound connection to saltwater. Celebrating and honouring my language name ‘Gurrwa Marraygan’ meaning ‘Sea Spirit’ through art and design allows me to connect with Country, Kin and Ancestors. I hope you enjoy ‘Girambit’ as much as I loved creating it”
