Renika Buchanan

I am a proud Gumbaynggirr woman from Urunga, with strong ancestral connections to Bellingen, Valla, and Nambucca Heads on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.

I come from the Buchanan family, with my cultural knowledge and identity passed down to me through my mother Lizzy, my grandparents Carol Leon and Victor “Chooney” Buchanan, and my great-grandmother Queenie Morris. These strong cultural leaders have played a vital role in preserving and sharing the stories, practices, and traditions of our Gumbaynggirr people, which I now continue through my weaving and artistry.

My work is grounded in the cultural teachings of my ancestors and the deep connection we hold to Country.
