My Grandmother’s Country is a deeply personal piece that honours my Biripi grandmother, who was taken as part of the Stolen Generations. This work reflects her journey, resilience, and the cultural knowledge that lives on through her descendants.
The circular design symbolises the strength of kinship, the continuation of ancestral lines, and the sacred relationship between people and Country. The use of emu feathers connects the work to spirit, land, and ceremony—paying respect to the old people and the stories they carry.
This weaving is both a tribute and an act of truth-telling. It gives voice to the lived experiences of Aboriginal women whose identities and connections were disrupted but never erased. My grandmother’s legacy is woven into this piece, and it is through her story that I continue to walk proud and connected to Country
