Gai Southwell, a proud Bundjalung woman, is the creative force behind Manhuti WalkAbout Jewellery & Weaving, a practice that honors the rich traditions of First Nations weaving while embracing contemporary design.

Drawing on generations of cultural knowledge, Gai crafts intricate woven pieces and jewellery that reflect deep connections to Country and storytelling.


Gai was born and lives on Dunghutti Country, based in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast NSW. With a passion for travel and exploration, Gai incorporates unique finds into her creations, collecting natural treasures from beaches, forests, bushlands, and rivers. These elements—driftwood, shells, seeds, and fibers—infuse each piece with its own individual story, blending the essence of the land with traditional weaving techniques.
