Seasons of Country
Across the many Nations of this continent, the seasons are understood not by a calendar but by Country itself—by the blooming of certain flowers, the migration of birds, the rising of constellations, the feel of the winds. These signs speak to cycles of care, ceremony, hunting, harvest, and renewal. Seasons of Country invites you to step into these rhythms through the voices and visions of First Nations artists.
This exhibition brings together works that reflect the deep, living relationships between people and place, guided by ancestral knowledge systems that continue to shape life today. Each artist responds to the seasonal shifts specific to their homelands—some following six, seven, or more defined seasons, others drawing from stories passed down through family, movement on Country, and observation of the world around them.
The works speak to a time before colonisation and a time beyond it. They speak to adaptability, survival, and continuation. Through painting, weaving, sculpture, sound, installation, and digital media, these artists share the ways they witness, honour, and move with their Country.
This exhibition invites you to slow down, to listen deeply, and to experience seasons as living cycles—woven with story, guided by responsibility, and grounded in our relationships with Country.
