Children's Art Book Launch

The Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance Children’s Art Book launch was a beautiful celebration in The Gallery. School groups from the Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance four nations came together to celebrate this SWFW publication. The artists featured in the book were presented with a copy of their own to keep.

The Children's Art Book is a creative and magical exploration of cultural stories by Aboriginal children across Worimi, Biripi/Birpai, Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr Country.

The book was a collaborative effort, weaving stories from local Elders and artists with the fertile imaginations of Aboriginal children across 17 schools within the Saltwater Freshwater footprint.

The process of transforming shared yarns (stories) into artistic expression is an ancient and ongoing practice within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

A celebration of our future wisdom-keepers, the Children’s Art Book is dedicated to inspiring our young ones to cultivate and continue a deep love and reverence for art, culture, their Elders and Country.

The book is available for purchase from The Gallery and our online store.

This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Indigenous Languages and Art Program.
